CEM Journey: Project Synchro

Overview of the project: Our project's purpose was to utilize renewable energy to power up a system to improvise and improve the daily maintenance required in Siloso Beach Resort(SBR). Our main concern was that of the roof top garden at SBR, because it requires constant care and manpower to do so.... We decided to create an automated watering system to help curb this problem. To add on, we also build another system, the music system to improve the ambiance of the resort for the guests.

During CEMP1 module, we started by planning of our project.

This is our block diagram displaying our group's circuit diagram in a simplified version

This is also our pictorial view on our systems

In CEMP2,

On the left is our final product: main circuit on the left of the picture on the acryllic board which consist of (trunkings, terminal blocks, fuses and the charge controller).

On the right is a close up view of our main circuit veroboard. It consists of (2 teensys, wires, voltage regulator).

Through this tedious process, we encountered many problems.

  1. Our moisture sensor connections broke during semester break. Which we needed to fix and troubleshoot to combine our circuit to make sure it worked together concurrently.

  2. Also, we needed to design new LDR circuit,(current LDR is internal).

  3. During CEMP1, *Water-pump still introduces noise* which affected our readings when we tested out our circuit which is not desirable.

  4. Our voltage regulator questions: -Can we power teensy? -Can we power-up our other components? -Is the voltage range acceptable? -Placement of Voltage regulator in the box together with our main circuit.

All of those problems arise and hence we needed to be quick witted and solve the problems readily. Which is how the method of teaching was (Problem-Solving based). There wasn't much teaching but it was on our own. I have benefited greatly from being independent and not be spoon-fed by our lecturers to do this project.

Finally to end of the write up, this is a picture of Team 2: Synchro.

PS. Video of our project's demo will be uploaded in a separate post!
